Youth Voices: La3 Raza Festival 2023

The Centro Cultural Latinoamericano  was the venue chosen by the Open Mic Educators collective for the La3 Razas Festival, under the slogan "Our Voices Matter"'.  This event, framed within the Anti-Discrimination Policies, takes place from Friday, September 1 to Monday, September 4, 2023. The program includes poetry readings, music, dance, film, photography and reflections by young people from the African diaspora, Afro-indigenous, Native Canadians, Latin Americans, Caribbean among others.

In Canada, the issue of racism is a major concern that needs to be addressed comprehensively. To meet this challenge, ONE MIC EDUCATORS use words, music and the arts in general to empower young people, creating awareness and promoting inclusion.

ONE MIC EDUCATORS plays an important role against racism by introducing young people to the historical contexts of racism in Canada, thereby helping them understand the root causes and consequences of discrimination. In addition, they promote critical thinking, encouraging young people to question the discriminatory structures and prejudices of society.

ONE MIC EDUCATORS raises awareness about racism by organizing workshops, seminars, and events. By creating safe spaces for dialogue, they allow young people to express their thoughts and experiences about racism, fostering empathy and understanding. Develop inclusive events that reflect diverse perspectives and cultures, ensuring that youth from different backgrounds feel represented and valued. Their understanding of the issues at hand enables them to facilitate constructive discussions,  empowering young people to become advocates against racism within their communities.

The Centro Cultural Latinoamericano shares the values of the La3 Razas Festival, and of all those who, like them, contribute to raising the awareness of young people.
